D is for Dinosaur

D is for Dinosaur

Being exposed to all these other mom blogs I have stumbled (and searched) for many great ideas.  This week I am really putting things together and planning for all possibilities. (This helps with my anxiety to.)  

Stations

The reading station was set up with all new library books, blankets and stuffed animals for fun reading. 

The Dinosaur Sensory Bin I knew as soon as I put it out it would be a huge hit!  The kids looked at it for awhile and waited until after we sang our good morning song to dive in.   The first thing they did was put all the dinosaurs in the water, then progressed to put everything else in the bin into the water.  Athena did ask first because she was unsure of what to do and I said you can do whatever you want as long as it all stays in the bin.  Boy was she pleased! 

Shapes, Nuts, and Bolts This station was not planned but was from this weeks discovery pack.  

I am never sure what the library will have available and just add what I pick up accordingly. 

 Spencer is really enjoying shapes lately.  Every time I put them out he gets excited, he even added some to the Dinosaur Sensory Bin. :)  

Of course we started our day off with a prayer.  Then I gave the kids as much time as they desired to explore the stations.  While they did this I brewed myself some coffee and set out the math activity. 

Preschool

Today letter D was introduced, a little bit.  My day all written out and bulletted was unexpectedly interrupted which I will get to later. 

We started off with a story from the discovery pack.  I have recently started reading one story before lessons then we read a story or two during circle time as well.  This splits up the sitting still time. 

The book was called The Shape of Things. 

I grabbed the foam shapes from the station and handed them out page by page so the kids could make the objects they were seeing in the book.

And the favorite, the train! 

We also made a boat and a kite.

We moved on to Domino math next.  Spencer worked on tracing the number 1 and did some great matching with the dominoes.  Athena got in some good practice writing her numbers and recognizing the number of dots without having to count them along with addition. 

When Athena finished all of her adding she wanted to draw the dots on her paper.  I had not thought of this as an additional math lesson, go Athena!  She drew the corresponding dots to the numbers she previously wrote down without having the dominoes as a reference. 

At this point it was time for lunch and this is where the unexpected interruption took place.  

Jerry surprised us by coming home from work early! 

This is a rare occurrence and only happened because he injured his neck and had to visit the doctor. :(.  We were all happy to see him but sad he was in pain. 

Instead of finishing up with our day me and the little dragons spent some time with Jerry.  It is not often we get the opportunity. ;)
