Shape Shop

We did this activity during our Shape theme week This was a game I made up on the fly that Little Dragon really enjoyed.  I  have shape buttons and I wasn't sure what I was going to use them for aside from standard sorting.   We started there.  After all the shapes were sorted by shape I asked Little Dragon to name all of the shapes.  There were a couple of more complex shapes such as hexagons and octagons.  These needed a bit of practice.  To get the practice in I made up this game.   I told Little Dragon that he was a shop owner.  I asked what kind of shop he wanted to run.  He picked car shop.  I said all of the shapes were different car parts and I was going to come in as different customers to buy the parts I needed to fix my car.  He agreed, of course.  I would use a different voice for each costumer and ask for mix matched things like 3 octagons and 5 yellow triangles.  This incorporated co...

M is for Meat Eaters

In pre-school Little Dragon has been learning about mail men for the last two weeks. When his teacher first told me the topic and letter I told Little Dragon we would learn more about mail men. Now we have gone over mail men and community helpers twice so when I told Little Dragon we would learn about m is for mail man he was was disappointed and asked if we could learn about something else. I can't say this upset or surprised me.  I get bored teaching the same things. So when we got home we brainstormed letter m topics.  I thought he would go for monkey, maybe mommy but he went with meat eaters.  Which he came up with on his own during our brainstorming.   This topic was a bit difficult for me to plan at first.  I would like to expand on this more but there are only so many hours in a day (and so many when mommy's are not being pulled in every direction) to make a impromptu plan.  This Week  Keeping with our theme we did a few me...

Finishing Fire Week 11 Wrap Up

The end of our week went well.  We continued to work on the letter F even after preschool hours.  I am not usually good at this but Jerry was this week.  I told him about my worries and he really  helped out by pointing out the letter F often. Bible We continued to read the story of the fiery furnace everyday. Thursday Little Dragon made a picture of the three men and the angel in the burning fiery furnace Fiery Furnace Materials 2 pcs of construction paper pencil markers tissues glue scissors The lesson called for tissue paper but I didn't have any on hand and could not run to the store to buy some, so Little Dragon made his own.   I gave him some tissues and he colored them with red, orange, and yellow markers.  Little Dragon drew 4 figures on construction paper.  He gave them eyes, hair, and belly's of course. Next he cut them out and glued them onto the second piece of construction paper.  He moved on to cutting u...

Letter J for Jesus

Focus on Jesus is perfect for the month of December.  I want to make sure we are talking about the miracle and love of Christ during the magic of Santa and Christmas. Our house is full of imagination and magic during the Christmas season. Even though we do pretend Santa is real and leaves presents for good boys and girls we take more time talking about the reason we celebrate Christmas-that is Christ. The whole month of December our we will be learning about the letter J, candy canes, and the birth of Jesus.  Of course we are going to take a couple weeks off for the holidays to just enjoy the magic. Heads up a was a bad picture taker this week.  I didn't take my camera out as often as I usually do. Bible To introduce the story of Jesus I used the YouVersion Bible app for kids.    We listened to The First Christmas Gift.   It was awesome!  My kids loved it and I loved it.  It was very interactive and colorful.  The story was also shor...

Week 9 Wrap Up

Week 9 trickled into a couple days of Thanksgiving week.  There were some things I wanted to get finished up and I didn't want to start a new letter Thanksgiving week.  We had plenty to do to prepare for the holiday there was no reason to stress over completing work. Bible We continued using the white board as a learning tool for David and Goliath.  Little Dragon did not seem bored of it. I set up a David and Goliath sensory sink that I will talk more about below. The dragons had a bible verse race.  I wrote the bible verse on rocks and they had to race to pick up a rock, race back to the other end of the room and match it to the correct word in the verse. Isaiah won the race. The dragons put on a small play for Jerry after nap time, acting out the story of David and Goliath. Isaiah was Goliath.  He stood on a desk with a 'sword' and said "Come fight me!" Doll Dragon was Queen (King) Sal.  She gave up her armor to David. Little Dragon was Davi...
