Big Energy-Little Learners...Can I do it all?

This activity goes along with the story of Joseph's coat of many colors.  After our reading of Joseph the Dreamer and Sold!  I gave the dragons each an envelope with the letters J-E-A-L-O-U-S inside. Before they opened the envelopes to discover what was inside we took a minute to define the word Jealous.  The word was used in our reading a couple of times, it is not a word we use in our regular vocabulary.  I wrote JEALOUS on the board and I started asking questions.  I asked questions that would help the dragons identify with the feeling jealous. The Dragons took turns asking questions too. I don't set out busy bags for anytime use.  I usually use them as 'stations' or for an activity to fill in time when the kids are feeling bored.  I prefer it this way because the bags are not overused and The Dragons can still be entertained by them enough for the time I need to get something done. Many busy bags are also great supplements for our preschool themes and we often make busy bags during our weekly curriculum. Uppercase/ Lowercase matching  We have used this busy bag a few times.  The paper pieces are lowercase 'ice cream scoops' and you match them to the uppercase 'ice cream cones'.  I didn't make paper cone's, sometimes when I use this busy bag I draw the cones on the white board for matching. This time I used the uppercase letter magnets to match to the ice cream scoops.   I gave each Dragon a tray of 'ice cream' and they matched the correct magnet.  When all of the magnets were matched they put them on the white ...

This week we mostly focused on reviewing the letters we have learned about.  There has also been a lot of reading practice for Doll Dragon from our favorite Bob Books. Although I have not been reading enough to Little Dragon.  I always forget about reading to him.  It makes me feel bad writing that but it is the truth.  Sometimes it is easy to forget because I have my focus on the things he needs to learn.  I started flash cards with him, so we have been reading the same 3 words all week. I need to pick up a book and read it. Our Bible activities are the same as last week. I did not add anything new because of the review.  I don't want to overwhelm the dragons.   Bible Verse is "For unto us a child is born" Isaiah 9:6 which both the kids have memorized now. Coming from the downs of last week have kept me down again this week.  Monday was a good day but Tuesday was a very bleh day and today I was really anxious all day. Good news is Jerry did get to see Athena again but I, again, did not get to see  her.  She cried on the phone last night begging to come over and said she is never going to be allowed over here again. We of course told her she is always welcome here, this is her home.  This is just an emotional situation for all involved. I have finished what is in my lesson plans but the lesson plan does start to get easier at this week.  The first few weeks were really full of stuff.  I have things to add but am having a hard time adding.  I want to take the easy way out and when I finish my plan just lay down and shut down.
