Roll to Stack

To give a different spin on stacking games we played this version which used dice.  We stacked eggs on the same stack using the dice to determine how many pieces we would stack on our turn.  When the stack fell it ended the game.  Having to stac k three or more pieces in a row was nerve racking and made it seem like your turn was  never going to end! The pressure was on trying to keep the stack from falling on your turn from one of the many pieces you have to stack on.  We played this game multiple times my dragons love to play games with dice.

Take The Gold

I know this is late but my current pregnant condition has made sitting at the computer more difficult.  But nevertheless I want to share what we did on St. Patrick's Day.  Take the gold is a game we created involving color recognition, numbers, addition, subtraction, and a little competition.  We started by identifying the colors and order of the rainbow.   We put some of each color in our grab pile.  To grab a color you had to roll the number corresponding with that color in the rainbow.  For example: red-1, orange-2, yellow-3, etc.  You could roll two dice if you could call out both the number and color correctly. Even me and Master Dragon forgot to call out both sometimes. After a few rounds of players being stuck, even rolling two dice, we decided if your dice total was the number you were seeking you could gain that color Lego for your rainbow. (Adding and subtracting) Once your rainbow is complete ...

Roll and Graph

This is a pretty popular game for preschoolers.  We have played it a couple times ourselves and I see it in preschool packs often.  I was pleased to see it in the Egyptian pack for use this week.  This game is a game of chance, but is also mathematics because you graph your results. It can also be considered basic science because we are testing the results of the di roll and documenting our results.  To  make this game more interesting then just rolling and graphing we start our game by picking a character we want to "win" or reach 10 first.  Next we give a color to each character, again just to make it a bit more interesting.   Then the rolling starts.  We rolled and marked until on column reached 10 and we had a winner!    Neither of our characters ended up winning the camel pulled through and beat us to the finish line, but we enjoyed playing and graphing. :)

Truck Stop Dice Game

Dice Game We played this game during our Construction Theme in preschool I love this game for number practice.  There is practice with number identification and counting as well, using both the numeral and the dots on the dice. We used the light table for this activity just because I wanted an excuse to get it out. :D The rules for this game is very loose so you can change it up a bit.  You can put it in a page protector and use  dry erase markers, print of multiple copies and use regular markers, or you can find some pieces for movement. I printed one copy and we used our pattern pieces for moving.   The rules were whichever piece gets to the other side first wins.  So the Dragons weren't really playing against each other and there wasn't 1 winner.   Both Dragons were rolling together to get the pieces to the other side.  Little Dragon enjoyed throwing his dice and then running to fetch it before counting the dots so he ...

Kings Castles

I am very happy I decided to continue the letter K into this week.  We have had a great time keeping our focus on the letter K. Bible Our curriculum is based on bible stories but not every activity talks about the bible.  We study the alphabet, numbers, shapes, etc. The past few weeks in addition to our daily bible story that I read to the kids we are spending quiet time with the bible.  The kids each have a bible and I have mine.  We sit together and read to ourselves, writing down things that stand out or interest us.  Since we have been spending more time getting to know God through the bible I have noticed he comes up during our other daily activities. Last week we read about King David. This week we read about King Solomon.  There is a list of wise sayings of King Solomon in our bible.  We read them together and talked about how we can use these sayings in our life. We focused on a couple from Proverbs: There is one who is free in giving...

Giant People!

Dragon Snack I made dragon snacks on Tuesday to incorporate the letter D with food.  We had donuts last week and I didn't -or couldn't think of-another food that started with D so I made this. The kids were really excited when they sat down to the dragon.  I will have to think about doing this more often. We started our day off with a review on Adam and Eve and I gave each of the kids a card with Adam, Eve, or the Snake on it so they could act out the story. The role playing was fun! Stations:  Reading station- again today this station had a lot of attention.  I don't know if it the dinosaur and dragon books or they just like reading right now.  Discovery bottle- the kids all liked looking in the bottle.  I did not sit and encourage searching for specific items but it was our first discovery bottle and wanted the kids to have a chance to look first.  Dice sensory station- I put a tub of dice on the table with some small metal cups and a...
