Big Energy-Little Learners...Can I do it all?

Week 2 Letter: A Theme: Alligator Number: 2 Bible story: Creation pt 2 Bible verse: "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." - Joshua 24:15 I hid the letter A and number 2 magnets around the house again.  It took Little Dragon longer to find the magnets this time.  Start When boys get together they like to fight and wrestle, probably because they aren't allowed to do this with their sisters.  So for about an hour before we started preschool at 9 am Little Dragon and Thunder Dragon fought bad guys in the living room because they were the 'good spider man who saves the boys and the girls'  I count this as our gross motor skills, they are pretty active and keeping good form. *shrugs shoulders* We also played Alligator Tag and Swinging Monkeys. This is our last week of preschool.  After this there will be no more folders only summer fun activities. For our last week our theme is the universe.  I am very excited about this theme and got a bit carried away on space books at the library. :) Bible We read the story of Jesus ascending to heaven behind a cloud. Bible Verse: He was taken up before their very eyes; and a cloud hid Him from their sight. - Acts 1:9   We will get more into this story as the week progresses but today we mainly focused on what Jesus asked of us before he ascended. He asked us to tell the world about Him! He told his apostles of the holy spirit and sharing what they learned with the world. To keep this message in mind we used play dough.  I started making an earth with play dough while we talked about what Jesus did for us.  When I was closer to being finished I asked The Dragons to guess what I was making.  I gave them a hint that it had to do with the job Jesus g...

Even though our days are pretty full and busy of fun hands on activities my children never stop moving!  I am not exaggerating either.  When I say Big Energy I am not joking.  After all the preschool we do The Dragons are still ready to run around and have a good time. Here are a couple activities we have done outside of our curriculum.  Played Lego's.   We play Lego's often.  When Barbies are out so are the Lego's.  When cars are out so are the Lego's. The Dragons play Lego's in the tub a lot too. Go on a quest.  This is an often occurrence.  We give The Dragons a quest like finding a special flower at a far away lake to heal their precious stuffed animals.   They ride their pet dragon to far away lands to complete their tasks.  Play with Play Dough   Play dough comes out a lot.  It is easy to get to and easy to play with.  The most common thing played wi...

Here a couple activities we did during this week to get moving, some science, and a daddy folder. Bubble Wrap Stomp A sensory experience for feet and fingers.  I was so excited for this activity! I spread out some bubble wrap and tapped it to the floor.  Then had the kids line up to run across it hearing the bubbles popping under their feet.   This didn't happen :(.  Perhaps it was because the bubble wrap was from the dollar store but there was no popping.   So I told the kids to jump on it, which they did without hesitation.  Still no popping....what? I split the bubble up and gave each child (and parent) a piece to pop with their fingers.  Still no popping!  We tried rolling it up and twisting it and we got a few pops but not much.  All in all the kids had a blast jumping and squeezing the bubble wrap.  And the few pops we did get were very exciting.  If I ever want to mail something fragile I know where ...

I do have to say I am excited about week 12-letter W.  There are so many things you can do with water!  Crafts, science, and sensory! It is already Wednesday and we have only achieved 1 day of preschool due to the weather.  Because school was canceled Doll Dragon went to her moms to spend time with her sister and I had a Visiting Dragon.  I decided to allow Little Dragon and Visiting Dragon play for the day to give them a snow day. Then we had another snow day.  Regardless, I had full intentions of doing preschool today but Little Dragon did not show up until lunch time.  This put a big hold on our schedule. Because of the above reasons I am posting about 1 day of lessons and a day activity that we did today. Bible Our story this week is Jonah and the Whale-perfect for water! Today we wrapped up our letter x activities.  I am pleasantly surprised that I was able to finish the week in a week. I thought I might need the weekend days to finish up. Sensory Activity My lesson plan calls for a sensory activity each week. We may explore things that may be considered sensory but these once a week activities are more the 'sensory bin' types or small world play. I ended up with two bins this week.  1 planned, 1 spontaneous but it worked out great! As you know we have been practicing rectangles.  As I was cleaning up toys I noticed a lot of the toys were rectangles. What a perfect way to practice rectangles! The second bin was a rice sensory bin.   To go along with our explorers theme I hid purple gems in the rice for my little dragon to find.  He had to explore the rice to find the gems. I thought he would enjoy finding them all but every one he found he buried again.  Therefore the rice is still full of gems. :) Circl...
