This year I wanted the preschoolers to plant seeds, water them, and watch them grow. The cheapest way is to use old egg cartons as the starting 'pots'. It is a neat process of life which takes you to help it live.
Doll Dragon was not really interested in the planting process but Little Dragon and Visitor Dragon were very excited to plant. Probably more because they got to play with dirt then it being seeds. *shrugs*
I save my egg cartons for different preschool crafts so I had them on hand. Me and the young dragons filled up the egg cartons.
When we finished placing all of the seeds we watered them and placed them by the window.

I showed them how to make a small hole in each 'bowl' and place 3 seeds inside and gently cover it up.
When we finished placing all of the seeds we watered them and placed them by the window.
And watched them grow...for about 20 minutes.
After about a week we started to see some sprouts!
